Episode 9: In the Chasm

Shuu and LaLa-Ru come to a village

The soldiers are practicing hand to hand combat. The Drill Instructor is harder on the soldiers because the final battle with Zali Barth. Tabur tells Nabuca he has no desire to return to their village and that he needs no family anymore.

Abelia is discussing the battle plan with Hamdo. He tells that he wants to destroy Zali Barth first so she sound send troops out to find where the village is. He begins to rave about how he will dominate the world and destroy all who betray or oppose him.

Shuu and LaLa-Ru see a villager tending the fields. As they head into Zali Barth, a little girl sitting on atop a boulder. She tells Shuu she is waiting for her dad and that the town's name is Zali Barth.

Shuu sees two people arguing. the man goes to hit the woman again and Shuu stops him. The woman, Sis, tells them they must talk the problem out not fight. Shuu lies about LaLa-Ru's name when she looks hesitantly to Shuu about telling Sis her name. He tells Sis they escaped from Heliwood and she warms up to them and tell them to follow them to her home to eat.

Within Sis's house their are several children and Sis bides them to great Shuu and LaLa-Ru a their guest. Sis tells her that Zali Barth is a haven for people who's family had been destroyed by Hamdo, the children are all orphans. She asks Shuu if he will help in the fields and Shuu happily agrees. She wipes some of the soup from LaLa-Ru's chin. Watching Sis,Shuu, and the children, LaLa-Ru sees kindness.

Suun comes in for dinner. Talking to Sis afterwards, Shuu learns that Suun's mother was taken by the soldiers and her father was the assassin Nabuca killed. Shuu tried his best to stay away from Suun.

Elanbu comes in to talk to Shuu. He wants Shuu to give him inside information on Heliwood. Shuu tackles him, telling him he should stay in Zali Barth and stop killing, Elanbu knocks him down and kicks Shuu, telling him that he can no longer life a life of peace. Heliwood soldier's took his sister and burned his village to ashes. The rest of his family died. Seeing his sister was ill,the soldiers threw her out into the desert where she died of dehydration and was eaten by scavengers. So Elanbu is determined to kill Hamdo.

LaLa-Ru comes and finds Shuu sitting alone. He says he understands Elanbu's feelings but there has to be a way other than killing and begins to cry.
